Legal status
The CCT is a Mutual Society, overseen by the Financial Conduct Authority. A Board of Directors is responsible for the day to-day running of the organisation and for its longer-term strategy. Directors are chosen by the membership, normally at the Annual General Meeting, to which all members are invited to attend. Membership is open to all, subject to payment of a one-off subscription of £1.
If you want to become involved as a member complete the on-line membership form. Members can discuss and vote on issues raised at the annual general meeting (AGM: normally held in the summer), including selection of directors.
Directors
There are currently six people on the Board of Directors, all with strong connections to the area. We are always looking for new people to join the Board. We positively welcome interest from people from all backgrounds and ages in becoming directors. If you are interested in joining the Board and contributing to our work, please get it touch with us via the contact page. One of the directors would be happy to give you more formation and discuss the matter with you. Before every annual general meeting (AGM) potential new directors can be nominated and be voted on to the Board by members attending the meeting. Between each AGM, new Board members can be co-opted, and their place secured by voting at the following AGM.
What is a Community Land Trust?
Chagford Community Trust is one of hundreds of community land trusts around the UK. While each one has its own character and can vary in size, they have one essential factor in common: the control and development of assets for the benefit of the community, whether these be affordable homes, community gardens, workplaces, renewable energy schemes or conservation land. They are democratically run and assume the long term stewardship of land and community assets. To find out more about community land trusts, go to the Community Land Trust Network website.
