Following considerable interest and support through a series of public meetings, Chagford Community Trust has been established to further the social, economic and environmental interests of the local community by acquiring and managing land and other assets. Chagford Community Trust was incorporated as an Industrial and Provident Society on 28th January 2014.
Our immediate focus is the affordable housing and other community benefit assets that form part of the proposed Bellacouche Meadows development, where there is an excellent opportunity for the local community to be involved and to maximise benefit through the participation of the Society.

We are delighted to announce that after many months of work consulting, discussing and drafting, Chagford Community Trust Limited was incorporated under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act 1965 on 28th January 2014. We are now able to formally engage with the various stakeholders in the proposed Bellacouche Meadows development, and we look forward to furthering the aims of the Society during the crucial months ahead. We are working on our membership procedure, and we will be inviting people to join the Society very soon.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all those who helped form the Society: to those who gave their support at the initial public meetings; to the Steering Group who have worked so diligently to create a Community Land Trust that’s right for Chagford; to Hannah Fleetwood at the National CLT Network for grant funding; to Chagford Parish Council, Dartmoor National Park Authority, West Devon Borough Council and the Community Council of Devon for their support; and especially to Alison Ward and Steve Watson from Wessex Community Assets who have given us so much invaluable encouragement, support and advice.
